Iraqi Conference on Water Buffalo Development-II (22nd Dec.2011 Baghdad)

Organisers of the Mesopotamian Water Buffalo Conference

Thank you for inviting me for a second time to attend the annual conference. I was not able to attend last year’s conference as I was in Egypt and I regret to say that I will not be able to attend this year’s conference as yet again I will be abroad.

Between 1998 and 2003 FAO produced some booklets on the water buffalo in the Mediterranean region. These publications were published as a single book (360 A4 Pages) for which I wrote an introduction. The introduction and the frontispiece of this book can be seen on my blog, At present I have only one copy of this book but if I can obtain others I will send them to you for use as a reference.

Throughout my career I supported the idea of utilising the water buffalo and several times I endeavoured, regrettably with little success, to introduce water buffalo into Sudanese farming. We should make every endeavour to revitalise the water buffalo industry in Iraq as this resilient animal has the ability to thrive on a wide range of feed sources while we are all familiar with the value of its meat, milk and cream.كيمر

I sincerely hope that you have a very successful conference this year
